Forgetfulness

I forgot I had a tumblr… I forget many things. Ask anyone that knows me!

Uhmm… haiku!

Earth is wet - warm.

She is living and at peace,

dancing through the sky.

I have been studying traditional Japanese haiku. I have a VERY limited understanding of the language, so reading poems doesn’t help as much as I would like it too. Traditional haiku have kigo - “defined word or phrase that symbolizes or implies the season of the poem. [1]” and kireji - literally “cutting word. [2]” I am unable to use true kireji in my haiku because there isn’t an equivalent in the English language, but I am usually ok using pseudo-kireji with my punctuation. Unfortunately, I’ve found that incorporating kigo in my haiku is more difficult than I would like to admit. Practice makes perfect, I guess. I could always learn the language and create truly traditional haiku…
