Forgetfulness

I forgot I had a tumblr… I forget many things. Ask anyone that knows me!

Uhmm… haiku!

Earth is wet - warm.

She is living and at peace,

dancing through the sky.

I have been studying traditional Japanese haiku. I have a VERY limited understanding of the language, so reading poems doesn’t help as much as I would like it too. Traditional haiku have kigo - “defined word or phrase that symbolizes or implies the season of the poem. [1]” and kireji - literally “cutting word. [2]” I am unable to use true kireji in my haiku because there isn’t an equivalent in the English language, but I am usually ok using pseudo-kireji with my punctuation. Unfortunately, I’ve found that incorporating kigo in my haiku is more difficult than I would like to admit. Practice makes perfect, I guess. I could always learn the language and create truly traditional haiku…

I have been giggling incessantly for three hours

Hee hee hee!  ^______________^

In like a lion

Spring hounds the heel of winter

with its revolution

Same damn song

I had to ask the revelers in the basement apartment to please turn down their music.

For clarification, their music is loud enough to travel up through two floor and still be loud enough to overpower my music. I even turned it up a bit, but was still unable to cover up the party going on two floors down.

The worst part is that it has been the same music the entire night. It is a Mexican band of some sort. What are they called? I don’t recall. There is a large family that lives down there. They have a few children who have a tendency to wake me up very early in the morning. One of them, the eldest male child, I believe, is often called by any number of people. Usually it’s the other children.

I hate to put a damper on their party, but they have one of these little shindigs almost weekly! I usually go home for the weekend, but whenever I am here it seems like they’re having a party. I am glad they have so much to celebrate, but quiet is also something to celebrate. I guess I’m going to be getting less and less quiet in the city.

Day 36/365 Haiku 36/365

I have decided to return to my original purpose for this blog. I deleted those posts which did not contain Haikus. I suppose it would have been better to move them to another blog, but I feel no real connection to those posts. Too often I post things just to post things because I have these blogs to update. I have nothing truly interesting to say in an arena such as this. Give me instead a good friend, a nice glass of wine, dim light, and a warm blanket and I could talk for hours.

On to the new Haiku, yes?

Impending season!
Red fades, yellows, browns into
The most poignant death

Back log…

I’m sort of cheating here, but whatever…

Day 26/365 Haiku 26/365

I saw you last,
eyes glittering into mine
and there is love here.

Day 27/365 Haiku 27/365

I write poetry
for you, in shades of purple.
Sometimes sad but not.

Day 28/365 Haiku 28/365

My lips burn and burn
until you cool them with fire
and cool green water

Day 29/365 Haiku 29/365

Yellow is pretty,
pale and filled with happiness,
like you when you read.

Day 30/365 Haiku 30/365

That light dress you wore
made me glad for all of you
my sister of psalms.

Day 31/365 Haiku 31/365

The sight of you there,
above me, fills me with blue
here, calm in your scent.

Day 32/365 Haiku 32/365

You are quite grumpy
Mr. Bee, you fly and buzz -
sting once!  You may die.

Day 33/365 Haiku 33/365

To man you give alms,
not to God or Goddess!
Why cause destruction?

Day 34/365 Haiku 34/365

I buzz constantly,
but with you my heart is calm
like when I’m alone

Day 35/365 Haiku 35/365

You’ve hated your nose
since childhood, but you loved me
because I was me.

Day 25/365 Haiku 25/365

It’s like a hot knife -

cauterizing as it cuts,

healing as it wounds.

Day 24/365 Haiku 24/365

I like when it rains

when the day is warm and green

and the rain is cool.

Day 23/365 Haiku 23/365

You’ve all gone away.

Emails and ten second calls -

sit for a second!

Day 22/365 Haiku 22/365

Over a month now

with nothing to show for it

but the urge to drink.

Day 21/365 Haiku 21/365

“Fuck, it’s cold out there.”

she said, but the sight of him

made her warm quickly.
